Astro Jam
Slide the blocks, match the doors, escape the jam
Astro Jam is a colour block sort puzzle set among the stars. Drag a block and it slides until a wall or another block stops it, then line it up with the door of its own colour to send it off the board. Clear every block before the timer or the move limit runs out, because both are ticking at once. It is a ten second rule set that quietly turns into three-moves-ahead planning by the time the grids fill up.
How to play
- 1Tap and drag a block in any direction, and it slides until something stops it.
- 2Match each block to the door that shares its colour.
- 3One drag counts as one move, however far the block travels.
- 4Beat both the timer and the move limit, since they run together.
- 5Empty the whole board to escape the jam and clear the level.

Game modes
Campaign
A numbered run of levels that grows from a 5 by 5 board to a packed 12 by 12.
Endless
Pick a difficulty and play fresh boards until your run ends, never the same twice.
Daily Challenge
One board a day, the same for every player, with a streak to protect.
Time Attack
The same levels on a tighter clock and a shorter leash.
Tips and strategy
- •Look for a block that already lines up with its door, and clear the easy exits first.
- •Every block you remove opens a lane, so think about what each move frees up next.
- •Watch the move limit as closely as the clock; rushing and dawdling both cost you.
- •On the busy 12 by 12 boards, plan two or three slides ahead before you commit.
The Astro Jam strategy guide
Reading a sliding block board
Astro Jam adds a twist to the classic sliding puzzle: a block does not move one square at a time, it slides until something stops it. That single rule changes everything. You cannot park a block wherever you like; you can only stop it against a wall, another block or its matching door. Every move therefore depends on what is already on the board, and removing one block can change where several others are able to stop.
Because each drag counts as one move however far the block travels, the move limit rewards long, purposeful slides and punishes shuffling. Before touching anything, look for blocks that already sit in line with their own coloured door. Those are free exits, and clearing them first gives every other block more room.
Think in terms of stoppers
Most harder levels are solved by creating a stopper. If a block needs to stop halfway across the grid so it can line up with its door, something has to be there to stop it. Often the answer is to slide a different block into position first, use it as a wall, and then clear it afterwards. When a block seems impossible to line up, ask which other block could act as its brake.
The reverse matters too. A block you leave in the wrong place can act as an unwanted stopper and cut a lane that another block needs. On the packed 12 by 12 grids, run each planned slide forward in your head two or three moves before you commit.
Balancing the clock and the move limit
Because the timer and the move limit run together, there are two ways to lose, and they pull in opposite directions. Rushing wastes moves; overthinking runs down the clock. A good rhythm is to spend the first few seconds reading the board and finding the free exits, then play those quickly, then slow down again once the board is open and the harder blocks remain.
Every board is built backwards from a solved position, so a route always exists. If you are several moves over budget, the problem is usually an early slide that parked a block in a blocking position, not the final few moves.
Getting the most from each mode
Campaign teaches the rules gradually as the grid grows from 5 by 5 to 12 by 12, so it is the best place to build habits. Endless picks a difficulty and keeps generating fresh boards, which is ideal for practising reading speed. The Daily Challenge is identical for every player and is a fair way to compare yourself with friends. Time Attack uses the same levels with less time and fewer moves, so play it only once the Campaign version of a level feels easy.
Accessibility built into the rules
Every colour in Astro Jam also carries a symbol on both the block and its door. That means matching never relies on telling similar shades apart, and it is also a useful speed trick for everyone: symbols are often faster to match at a glance than colours on a crowded grid.
