Try on makeup live, before you put it on
BlushUp is a live makeup camera. Point the front camera at yourself and makeup is applied in real time, tracked to your face with augmented reality, so it stays in place when you turn, talk or laugh. Choose a complete look in one tap or build your own shade by shade, then capture a photo or a video with the makeup already on. Face tracking runs on your phone, and your face, photos and videos are never uploaded.
How it works
- 1Open the front camera and pick a one-tap look, such as Natural, Soft Glam or Classic Red.
- 2Adjust any area on its own: lips, blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, brows, contour, highlighter or foundation.
- 3Use the strength slider on each area to go from a hint of colour to full glam.
- 4Hold Before to compare with bare skin, then let go to bring the makeup back.
- 5Take a photo or record a video, then save or share it from the built-in gallery.

Why try makeup on camera first
Colour behaves differently on skin than it does in a tube. A lipstick that looks like a soft rose in the shop can read much warmer or cooler on your lips, and blush shades that look alike in a palette can look very different on the cheek. Trying shades live on your own face shows what actually suits your skin tone before you buy anything or spend time applying it.
BlushUp tracks your face in real time with augmented reality, so the makeup stays in place while you turn and talk. That makes it closer to a mirror than a flat photo filter.
Choosing shades for your skin
A simple way to begin is to look at the veins on the inside of your wrist in daylight. Bluish veins often suggest a cool undertone, which tends to suit berry, rose and blue-based reds. Greenish veins often suggest a warm undertone, which tends to suit coral, peach and orange-based reds. If it is hard to tell, you may be neutral and able to wear both. These are rules of thumb, not laws, and trying shades side by side on camera is the quickest way to see what works.
Blush usually looks most natural placed on the apples of the cheeks, where colour naturally appears. Starting with a low strength and building up keeps an everyday look soft.
Lighting and camera tips
Even, soft light gives both the most accurate colours and the most stable tracking. Face a window rather than having it behind you, and avoid a single overhead bulb, which casts shadows under the eyes. Hold the phone at or slightly above eye level, and keep your face well inside the frame.
Building your own look
The one-tap looks are a useful starting point. Pick the one closest to what you want, then change one area at a time: swap the lipstick, soften the eyeshadow, or remove contour. Hold Before to compare with bare skin as you go. When you find a look you like, the app remembers it and opens on your own setup next time.
