Little Acre

Plant, water, sleep, harvest

Little Acre is a cozy pixel-art farm you can tend in a few taps a day. You begin with a small patch of grass, a hoe and a handful of seeds, and over the seasons that patch grows into a homestead with animals, bees, a pond, a mine and a workshop full of recipes. There are no timers, no energy bars and no way to lose, so the farm moves at exactly your pace, and it plays entirely offline.

How to play

  1. 1Hoe a tile of grass, plant a seed and water it.
  2. 2Go to sleep to move to the next day, and wake up to growing crops.
  3. 3Harvest ripe crops and sell them in the shop or turn them into goods in the workshop.
  4. 4Spend coins on land, sprinklers, harvesters, animals and buildings so the farm starts running itself.
  5. 5Fill town orders and fund town projects for bonus coins and permanent perks.

What makes it special

  • 16 crops across four seasons, plus two legendary crops to unlock
  • Chickens, ducks, sheep, goats, cows and a truffle-hunting pig
  • Bee hives, a fishing pond with seven kinds of fish, and a mine with ore and gems
  • 27 workshop recipes, from bread and cheese to wine, pies and ruby rings
  • Six town projects that each give your farm a permanent perk
  • Weather that matters: rain waters your crops, fog brings mushrooms, snow covers winter
  • No timers, no energy and no lose state, with fully offline play
  • Hand-made pixel art and gentle chiptune music, in portrait or landscape

Tips and strategy

  • •Plant crops that suit the season; out-of-season seeds are a waste of a tile.
  • •Buy sprinklers early, because watering by hand is what slows a growing farm down most.
  • •Turn surplus crops into workshop goods, which usually sell for far more than the raw harvest.
  • •Check town orders each morning; they pay a bonus for things you are growing anyway.

The Little Acre strategy guide

The first week on the farm

Every farming game rewards the same early habit: turn your first harvest into more land and more automation as quickly as possible. In Little Acre that means planting every tile you have, watering them, and sleeping to move the day on. Sell the first crops, buy more seeds, and keep every tile busy. An empty tile earns nothing, so a full field of cheap crops beats a half-empty field of expensive ones.

Watering by hand is the task that grows fastest as the farm grows, so sprinklers are usually the best early purchase. Each sprinkler removes a chore from every future day, and that saved time goes into expanding the farm rather than maintaining it.

Working with the seasons

Crops belong to seasons: wheat and carrots in spring, corn and blueberries in summer, pumpkins and grapes in autumn, kale in winter. Plant with the calendar in mind, because a crop that will not finish before its season ends is a wasted tile. Late in a season, choose fast-growing crops that ripen in time.

Greenhouses remove the seasonal limit for the crops inside them, so they are best used for your most valuable crop. The weather helps as well: rain waters every field for free, so rainy days are good days to spend on the mine, the pond or the workshop instead of the watering can.

Raw goods versus crafted goods

Almost every farming sim adds value through processing, and Little Acre is no exception. Milk becomes cheese, fruit becomes jam, and grapes become wine, and crafted goods usually sell for much more than the ingredients. When your fields produce more than you can sell well, send the surplus to the workshop rather than the shop.

Town orders pay a bonus for specific items. Checking them each morning lets you plant or craft toward orders you can fill easily, which is one of the most efficient sources of coins in the game.

The long game

The six town projects, from the Market Stall to the Founder Statue, each give your farm a permanent perk, so funding them early pays off for the rest of the game. Legendary crops such as Starfruit and the Ancient Gourd are worth working toward once the basics are automated. Because there is no energy system and no way to lose, the best rhythm is a few relaxed days at a time, returning whenever you like.
