Art history has traditionally been organised around a small number of names, which is a distortion worth being aware of even while learning them.
The unit covers the Renaissance masters, the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, the modern masters, women artists whose reputations were suppressed or recovered, and artists working outside the European tradition.
