Tools that make work easier

A machine does not create energy. It trades force against distance, letting you apply less force over a longer distance to do the same work - and that trade is the whole of the subject.

The unit covers levers, ramps, pulleys, wheels and gears, and what making work easier actually means when the total work is unchanged.

Where people slip

A machine cannot reduce the work done, only the force required. Halving the effort means at least doubling the distance, and friction means you always pay a little extra.

How the unit is structured

Simple Machines runs as 20 short steps that unlock in order. 15 are practice rounds and 5 are challenge rounds that pull together everything before them. Questions start at difficulty 1 and climb to 2 as you progress.
